Chief's Grade Indian Trade Percussion Rifle 1840-
This is an excellent Half Kentucky Percussion Long Rifle traded to the Native American Indians and manufactured by Truitt Brothers & Co. The piece dates to circa 1840-1850's and shows an exceptional curly maple hardwood stock with 36.75"L octagon barrel with original ramrod. The side of the receiver lock is marked, "TRUITT Brother & Co." along with some hand engraving. The right side of the stock shows solid brass trade tacks in an arrow symbol applied by the Plains Native American Indians to whom the rifle was traded. The rifle also features a carved cheek rest, brass crescent butt stock plate and fancy cast trigger guard. This also has a fixed buckhorn rear sight and fixed brass post front sight, full length stock, double set triggers. This would have been traded to a Chief or noble in the tribe as this is a high grade rifle. Measures overall 52 1/4". Antique Firearm NO FFL.
