c1959 - This is a sculpture of an American Indian Chief done by Southern California artist Thomas M. Domiani. The chief stands 6’4” and is dressed in red silk-like shirt, felt trousers and apron. The real beauty of the wardrobe is the meticulous beadwork that is evident on the war bonnet, with its dyed turkey feathers, the hair ties, arm cuffs, belt and doeskin moccasins. The ties, choker and breastplate are made from authentic hair pipe that is made from bird bones. Also real on the chief is the hair, which starts at the eyelashes and continues to the long braids. The skin is made of a pliable plastic material and the body has movable joints. -62102
