Professional baseball player (1888–1970) who is best known as the ringleader of the players involved in the 1919 Black Sox scandal. Uncommon Louis Heilbroner Baseball Statistical and Information Bureau card, 5 x 3, filled out and signed in pencil, "Chick A. Gandil." The card features typed information relating to Gandil's 1916 season with the Cleveland Indians, with Gandil adding his name and residence, "Berkeley, Cal.," and his birth date, "Born St. Paul, Minn., Jan. 19th 1889." Gandil also corrects his age to "27." In fine condition. Consignor notes that this card was sold to SABR co-founder Ray Nemec, who used it for his player profiles and lifetime records. Louis Heilbroner (1861–1933), a one-time manager for the St. Louis Cardinals, was a pioneer in baseball statistics who in 1909 founded Heilbroner's Baseball Bureau Service, the first commercial statistical bureau dedicated to baseball, and began publishing the Baseball Blue Book.
