SN: 2709. Antique palm squeeze double action turret revolver chambered in .32 Rimfire Short, manufactured in Chicago, IL circa 1890’s. This unique firearm design was originally patented & produced in France by Jacques Edmond Turbiaux, soon after they were manufactured for the Minneapolis Fire Arms Co. circa 1891-1892 by James Duckworth of Springfield, Massachusetts, before the rights were purchased by Peter H. Finnegan formed the Chicago Fire Arms Co. In 1892 Finnegan partnered with famous sword maker Ames Sword Co. of Chicopee, Massachusetts to manufacture 15,000 palm pistols in anticipation of selling them during the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Only 1,500 were completed by the deadline. Peter Finnegan ultimately declared his company insolvent. Ames Sword Co. secured the patent rights to the palm pistol and continued to manufacture them into the early 20th century. Features a nickel plated finish with light coverage floral embellishments, 1 1/2" round barrel, 7 round disc cylinder, grip safety, and smooth black hard rubber side plates and lever grip. Matching serial numbers are found on the frame, cylinder and side plate. The metal side plate discs are marked "CHICAGO FIRE ARMS CO. CHICAGO, ILL.” & "THE PROTECTOR PAT. MCH. 6.83. AUG. 29.93." Revolver retains approximately 94% of its original nickel plated finish showing scattered handling marks and small losses. The left removable side plate's outer edge has darkened somewhat from handling. Action is mechanically excellent. the bore is excellent, the markings are clear and the hard rubber very good with minor wear. Note* There is a Minneapolis Fire Arms Co. "Protector in this auction. Would make a nice set.
