This is a very rare early Cheyenne Native American Indian pipe bag showing both beadwork and quillwork. The piece is from circa 1850-1860 showing wonderful quality. The pipe or tobacco bag shows a chalk white base with greasy yellow, navy or dark blue, red and dark green glass trade seed beads with long cut fringe having porcupine quill work having rich ochre mineral white, yellow, red, and green coloring. The bag has an excellent fancy beaded top edge and beaded drop having a hairlock. The bag is from a private museum in Martin, South Dakota. One of the finest tobacco bags on the market with an excellent age and condition. Beadwork across both sides. Overall measures 36”L x 6 3/8”W.
