This is an excellent authentic Northern Cheyenne Native American Indian pipe tomahawk dating to circa 1860-1870’s from Colorado. The tomahawk was acquired from Jim Dresslar by the current owner in the early 2000’s. The piece shows a hand-forged pipe tomahawk head with a tall pipe bowl having top and bottom rings along with forged chevrons and a slight rear-facing spur. The hard wood haft handle features an elaborate brass tack designs and holds a long Indian tanned hide buckskin porcupine-quilled drop at the end. The drop shows all porcupine quillwork in a red, natural and purple pigment mineral dyes with the hide showing a yellow ocher mineral finish. The gripping area has some wear on the finish from being held and used and the smoking tip also shows wear from use. The tomahawk head and medium width blade shows a nice even rich patina and is in good condition. Provenance: From the Jim Dresslar prominent collection collected in Colorado. Overall the piece measures 20 inches in length with a 9.5 inch long by 3.75 inch wide head.
