For your consideration in this lot are volumes one and two of "Cheyenne Indians: Their History and Ways of Life" by George Bird Grinnell, Introduction by Mari Sandoz., a Nebraska novelist, biographer, lecturer, and teacher. She became one of the West's foremost writers, and wrote extensively about pioneer life and the Plains Indians. The book provides a comprehensive history and explanation of the tribe, including their customs, rituals, beliefs, etc. George Bird Grinnell was a zoologist by training and an anthropologist by inclination. He accompanied Custer's Black Hills expedition as a naturalist in 1874, and from that time until his death in 1938, was closely associated with the Cheyenne and other Plains tribes. The books are bound in their original gold gilt red cloth and each has several black and white illustrations, including a map in the back of Volume I, paper dust jackets have some tears, stains, and foxing. books are in very good condition themselves, pages are bright and clean without any noticeable foxing or marring.6.25"W x 9.25"L x 1.5"D each approximately.
