Cheyenne Bag. 36" overall length. Constructed of the tanned hide of an unborn Buffalo calf. Beaded around the top and legs, which are decorated with hawk bells. 4.5" of beaded leather added to the top, lined with trade cloth. Two quilled roundels on the belly with quilled drops of various lengths, terminating in tin cones filled with horsehair. Likely used as a pipe bag. Collected from the Bald Eagle family-Standing Rock reservation. Circa 1880. Provenance: Ex-Wintersteen collection.
