The lot features an excellent beaded sheath and large trade knife from the Cheyenne Native American Indians and dating to the 19th Century. The sheath shows a parfleche rawhide lining which has been covered in Indian tanned hide and adorned with an outstanding traditional geometric beadwork and a line of rolled tin jingle cones. The trade knife shows a heavy blacksmith forged bowie knife drop point blade which has a Rocky Mountain Elk antler handle with rich deep yellow coloring and is secured with a poured bullet led cap at the bottom. The blade has a dark patina. The sheath shows beads in the colors of chalk white, semi-transparent Cheyenne pink, greasy yellow and cobalt. The sheath shows a braided original Indian tanned hide top strap with belt tie fringe on the corners of each side of the sheath. The piece appears to be both sinew and trade thread sewn. Provenance: From a large American Indian and Western Cowboy collection from Iowa. The piece has a vintage collection store tag which states, “Beaded Cheyenne Knife Sheath With Metal Cones $1,850.00”. The sheath measures 14.25”L by 3”W. The knife is 10.75”L with a 6.25”L blade that is 1.5”W and approximately ¼” thick at the spine.
