Vintage matte-finish 14 x 11 photo of the 1945 Japanese surrender aboard the USS Missouri, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “To Cmdr. John S. Thiemeyer, Jr., M.C. USN—with best wishes and great appreciation. C. W. Nimitz, Fleet Admiral, US Navy.” The image is affixed to a same sized piece of cardboard. In fine condition, with small circle of adhesive residue at the lower left side. The admiral considered the commander one of the best orthopedic surgeons in the Pacific fleet. After the war, Thiemeyer became a prominent Virginia surgeon.
