World War II-dated DS, signed “C. W. Nimitz,” one page, 8 x 10.5, no date but circa early 1945. A temporary citation in which Admiral Nimitz presents the Bronze Star Medal to Lieutenant Albert R. Phillips of the United States Naval Reserve for "meritorious service in the performance of his duty as an officer serving in a United States Destroyer Escort in action against the enemy during offensive operations of our forces in the Pacific Ocean theatre of war. His skillful performance of duty under strenuous conditions for long periods of time contributed materially in inflicting severe damage to the enemy. His efficient and capable service was an inspiration to those with whom he served and in keeping with the highest traditions of the naval service." In fine condition, with short tears and chips to the top edge. Accompanied by a letter from the USS Burden R. Hastings, dated February 13, 1945, and signed by J. W. Stivers, as well as an official 3.25 x 4.5 naval portrait of Lt. Phillips.
