Chester Gould - Original Comic Strip Art for Dick Tracy Sunday dated 6-28-53 (The Chicago Tribune, 1953). America's foremost lawman, Dick Tracy made Jack Webb look like a stand-up comedian. From his razor-sharp chin to his two-way wrist radio, Tracy was always working to make America a safer, better place. Originally a hard-bitten cops-and-robbers strip, the feature grew more and more bizarre as Gould's imagination and his fondness for outre characters was given more latitude. The strip offered here, centering around a dispute regarding a new bathroom, is rife with unforgettable characters, including BO Plenty, Gravel Gertie, and Uncle Canhead. It even has an entry in the Crimestoppers Textbook at the top of the page. Measuring approximately 28.5" x 19" overall, the piece is constructed, as were the majority of Gould's Sundays, by adhering individual panels to a larger board. In excellent condition, this is a great example of this beloved strip. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
