Chester Gould - Original Comic Strip Art for Dick Tracy Sunday dated 1-10-65 (The Chicago Tribune, 1965). Newspaper comic strip audiences were witness to a momentous event on October 4, 1931: the debut of Dick Tracy, America's greatest lawman. Little did they know that Tracy would fight his unceasing war against crime for more than seven decades, facing down some of the most bizarre opponents ever to crawl off the four-color page. In the example offered here, Tracy wraps up a big case and solves a decades-old mystery. Measuring approximately 23" x 29" overall, with an image area of approximately 19.5" x 23.5", the piece is topped by an installment of the Crimestoppers Textbook and is in excellent condition. Unlike Gould's earlier Sundays, which were created by pasting individual panels to a larger board, this example is rendered directly on the board itself. The title panel is a stat, everything else is presented in its original glory. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
