Chester Gould - Modern Mollie Try-Out Daily Comic Strip
Chester Gould - Modern Mollie Try-Out Daily Comic Strip Original Art (circa 1925). Chester Gould was driven to succeed as a cartoonist. After mastering the lessons set forth in W.L. Evans' famed mail-order cartooning course, Gould left Pawnee, Oklahoma to pursue his career in Chicago. Before he hit the big time with Dick Tracy, Gould worked on humorous strips such as Fillum Fables, Radio Lanes, Radio Cats, and The Girl Friends. Light-hearted flapper fare such as this try-out strip, Modern Mollie, went quickly out of fashion as soon as the Great Depression struck. Soon Gould had found his niche as Dick Tracy brought his brand of hard-hitting justice to the ""dirty thirties."" This daily gives a rare glimpse into an alternate facet of Chester Gould's cartooning talent. The daily has an image area of 20"" x 6"", and the art is in Excellent condition.

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids.
