Arthur, QM Genl,” dated in pencil in another hand at the top, October 20, 1862, on a light blue 3.5 x 8 sheet, removed from a larger letter from Major Rowland. In full: “The quarters desired by Major Rowland being beyond the limits of his state, his application therein within made is respectfully referred to the Commander-in-Chief. The quarters are the same occupied by Col. Berdan & are particularly well adapted for the drill & practice of sharp shooters. I think no harm can result from allowing Major Rowland to quarter his recruits there & recommend that his request be granted.” In fine condition, with a bit of trivial edge wear and toning.
