Chesapeake Gun Club Marked Double Barrel 8 Gauge Hammer Market Gun
Manufactured circa 1880s. Single bead sight on the solid concave rib which is marked "LONDON STUB TWIST" and the bottom of the barrels are marked with "2442", "NOT FOR BALL" and Birmingham proofs, and they are equipped with an extractor. Each lock is marked "CHESAPEAKE. GUN. CLUB.". The water table is marked with two Birmingham proof marks. Light scallop engraving on the frame and locks, under lever mounted on the bottom of the frame and mounted with a checkered splinter forearm with added horn forend insert and pistol grip stock with a horn grip cap and flat steel buttplate. These guns were designed to maximize the number of kills per shot. Length of pull is14 5/8".

Condition: Good. The barrels retain 30% thin brown finish and much of the twist pattern visible. The frame, locks, hammers and break lever have a smooth mottled silver gray patina. The wood is very good with heavy wear to the checkering on the forearm, overall some minor dings and dents and crisp checkering on the stock wrist. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
