The piece is from the Southeastern Cherokee Native American Indians and is a premier artifact war club. The piece is from circa 1780-1830 pre-"Trail of Tears" when the Cherokee people inhabited the Georgia and Carolinas area. The piece is from the collection of Mrs. Henry Lang and was deaccessioned from the Montclair Museum in New Jersey. Mrs. Henry Lang was the founder of the Montclair Museum and had one of the largest collection of early Indian items with more than 4,000 items. The piece shows an excellent stone war club head wrapped in palm fiber fronds on a hand carved peeled wood handle having alligator skin wrapped accents. The war club has an oval carved end with a correctly period drilled hole. The piece shows the correct wear and tool marks and is strongly believed to be authentic piece. The stone head has the museum number, "x53.1". Measures overall 20.25'L x 4 1/8"W x 1.75" thick.
