Exquisite Native American Eastern Cherokee ''The Eagle Mother'' Stone Pipe by John Julius Wilnoty b. 1940, bowl is 4''L x 2''H, the entire piece is 18''L, features a carving of an eagle in red stone, includes leather covered shaft, pipe has a very small nip to the beak, purchased in 1975 from the late Tom Underwood at The Medicine Man Craft Shop in Cherokee, NC, Artist Bio: ''John Julius Wilnoty (b. 1940) is an acclaimed Cherokee sculptor and a somewhat enigmatic figure among Cherokee artisans. Known for carvings that display a rich and complex mythology, Wilnoty was completely self taught. He works primarily in steatite, a dark-hued pipestone. His work has been included in many articles and exhibitions, including the Smithsonian Institution.''
