The lot features a carved rare Cherokee Black Rock Steatite Pipe from the Otto Ernst Collection. The piece has the slight “T” (more “L”) shaped carved pipe that is from scarcely seen black rock Steatite. The tobacco sacred pipe is from the 19th century second to third quarter and is a well preserved piece. This was purchased from the King Saddlery Museum in Sheridan, Wyoming where the Ernst Family had the collection displayed. The pieces were original collected and sold by Otto F. Ernst in the 19th century. Otto Ernst was a renowned Saddle Maker and would purchase Native American items to sell in his Saddle shop and Catalog. Otto Ernst Saddlery Sheridan, Wyoming.
