Also known as South Carolina Highway 11 (SC 11), the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway winds almost 120 miles from the Georgia state line along the southern edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains to the North Carolina state line. The views are some of the most scenic of the state's rolling hills. The route is surrounded by peach orchards, quaint villages, and parks. The current highway was once part of the "Cherokee Path" or "Keowee Path," this road was the route used by the Cherokee Indians and both the English and French fur traders and stretched from Tennessee to Charleston, South Carolina. Echoes of the area's Cherokee heritage can still be heard in places and river names like Seneca, Savannah, Keowee, Jocassee, Enoree, Toxawy, Tugaloo, Tokena, and Eastatoee.
