Biography:
Chen Chi (1912-2005) was born in small town near Shanghai, China, just after the 1911 Revolution. Like many other Chinese artists, Chen Chi was inspired by the art coming of the West, including Europe and America. He developed a keen interest in watercolors, and became a highschool art teacher. In 1947 he left China to make his home in the United States. There he continued his art, developing a new aesthetic in Chinese painting. He found work as an illustrator, and his drawings appeared in Colliers Magazine, Ford Motor Company Magazine, and Sports Illustrated. Chen Chi became recognized around the world as a brilliant artist, and a museum opened in his name at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Campus. His art can be found in the permament collections of the Smithsonian Institute The Clevland Institute , the Metropolitan Museum of Art, National Academy of Design, Pennsylvania, and Academy of the Fine Arts, Butler Institute.
