<B>Check Signed by James Madison as President,</B></I> 2.5" x 7.75", $60 drawn on the Bank of Columbia and payable to "<I>A.B.</B></I>", Washington, D.C., July 7, 1813. Written entirely in Madison's hand, an attached tab on the left side is inscribed "<I>draft on Philada favor of Robert Madison</B></I>." The verso, rather than bearing a conventional endorsement, reads "<I>Bank of Columbia</B></I>" three times with the bank's name partially written an additional four times-- as if Madison was having trouble with his pen. Small splits, one of which crosses the "a" in "Madison". Overall good condition.
