Very rare; we've only sold one before. Super early for Colorado. Incorporated in New York. Certificate number 69 issued in 1864 at New York, to Edwin A Burgess. Signed by Walter E Lawton, and secretary J Davis. 5.5 x 9" Folds, creases. Not cancelled. "Issued for the purchase of mining property in Colorado." 25c IR revenue stamp with tied cancel. Gilt lettering. The Chase Gold Company have 500 feet on the SP Chase, between Russell and Willis Gulches; with two shafts 70 and 130 feet deep, the latter sinking; a whim house and whim; a 10 stamp steam mill in Russell Gulch in working order, but not running. EJ Sweet of South Boulder is the agent. [Hollister] Lawton attempted to purchase the island of Navassa (south of Cuba). He was also treasurer of the President Petroleum Company in Venango Co., PA. He disappeared in 1887 with his partner's money.
