Rare cardstock 2.75 x 3.5 photo of Parker in a half-length pose holding his saxophone, signed and inscribed in black fountain pen “To Bogson, Regards, Charlie Parker.” Photo is affixed to an 8.25 x 9.25 sheet on which is noted the dated July 14, 1950, presumably when the signature was obtained, and decorated with a ticket stub and drink card from the Bop City jazz club in New York City and a few other decorative images, including newsprint images of Dizzy Gillespie and Stan Kenton. In fine condition, with the ink slightly faded.

By 1950, much of the jazz world had fallen under the Bird’s spell, with fellow musicians transcribing and copying his solos, and saxophonists imitating his style note-for-note. Musicologists liken this phenomenon to the one led by Louis Armstrong, with both men setting the standard the standard for their instruments for decades...with few escaping their influence. Signed images of Parker, no matter what size, are always scarce and desirable. The flourishes added here—mementos from the Big Apple jazz scene—further enhance that desirability.
