Scarce DS, signed “Charlie Parker,” one page, 8.5 x 11, June 25, 1954. Orchestra Bureau of Philadelphia contract for a performance by the “musicians in the orchestra under the leadership of Charley Parker [sic]” at the Douglas Hotel’s Showboat Jazz Theater in Philadelphia, during the week of August 16th. In fine condition, with a few tiny edges tears and chips. From the collection of Norman Saks, the world’s foremost Charlie Parker collector, and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Saks stating that it appears on page 25 of the book Charlie Parker & Jazz Club Memorabilia: The Norman R. Saks Collection by Ken Vail. The Showboat, located in the basement of the Douglas Hotel, was widely known as one of Philadelphia’s most famous jazz clubs, frequently drawing legendary performers like Billie Holiday, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Fats Domino, Aretha Franklin, Lou Rawls, and Thelonious Monk.
