Charlie Duke Signed Handwritten Remembrance of Moon
Charlie Duke signed handwritten essay about the magnificence of being on the moon during Apollo 16, the tenth man to have such an honor. Very moving essay reads in full, ''In April 1972, my life changed forever as I found myself riding Wernher von Braun's mighty Saturn V Rocket into the heavens aboard Apollo 16, mankind's fifth successful lunar landing mission.

On April 20th, John Young and I successfully landed our Lunar Module 'Orion' on the moon's dusty soil. Several hours later, I emerged to become only the 10th human being in history to ever stand on another world.

We spent the next three days living on the moon, and exploring the ancient Descartes Highlands in our Lunar Rover! Though the moon is totally lifeless, its beauty was incredible. It was mostly shades of grey in color. The entire surface was covered with lunar dust that was as fine as powder. I looked up into the blackness of the lunar sky, and directly over my head was the blue and white jewel of the Earth! What a sight!

I was humbled as I pondered the thought that I would be only one of twelve human beings to ever experience this truly fantastic adventure!

The epic voyages of Apollo marked a turning point in human history, when mankind first lifted off from our earthly island home, and began our long journey to the stars! / Charles M. Duke, Jr. / Apollo 16 Moonwalker''. Single page document measures 8.5'' x 11'', on Duke's personal Apollo 16 stationery. Near fine condition.
