Charlie Chan's Murder Cruise Screen Used Racing Rocking Horse
Charlie Chan's Murder Cruise Screen Used Racing Rocking Horse The Charlie Chan series starring Sidney Toler was a major hit in the 1940's. Being a time where few thought of anything resembling "political correctness", the Chan series actually came out somewhat unscathed basically because of the authority and dignity that Toler brought to his performance. Obviously deemed a Chinese Sherlock Holmes, he kept the same intelligence, and "above the fold" that Holmes displayed. Forty-seven of these Toler Chan movies were made. One of the best was "Charlie Chan's Murder Cruise" (1940), in which Chan must travel on a cruise ship from Honolulu to California to investigate first the murder of one of his best friends, and then a series of continual murders on the ocean liner. The film is known for having a cast of some of the top talent in Hollywood, including Leo G Carroll. But perhaps what most viewers remember about this specific installment in the Chan series is the wonderful Cruise Ship "Horse Race" that takes place (while a murder is going on somewhere aboard!). This race was based on actual cruise ship "games" of the time in which specially made "rocking horses" were supplied for the upper class to stage a race around the ship (which of course they also bet on). The "jockey's" would sit on the horses and rocked back and forth as fast as they could. The wooden horses had sled-like feet that would move the horse forward as they rocked. The sight of well-dressed first class VIP upper crust men and women sitting on these horses frantically rocking back and forth to race through the ship (and falling over in the process) is something that doesn't leave your memory too quickly! This is one of the actual screen used hero special cruise ship rocking horses used in this film. Ingeniously hand-crafted in wood with red markings (to give the right shading in the Black & White film), with a way too friendly painted face (all the more to make the rich look silly), it actually works! It is in amazingly condition, considering the work-out it received in the movie, and the fact that it is over 70 years old. There is a slight chip of wood on the lower back "sled", and the leather ears which the riders would grab onto while rocking are missing. Props like this that play such an important and very visual part in a classic film are exceptionally rare! An amazing motion picture museum quality piece of memorabilia! Horse stands 34"x23"x7". This item also comes with a Movie Props DNA: This item now includes three levels of security: 1) DNA laced invisible ink – a 9-digit code laced with DNA ink is placed on an appropriate place of the prop/costume and can be only viewed using a high-frequency UV light. The chances of replicating the specific DNA sequence which is unique to MPDNA is 1 in 33 trillion. 2) Archival Microchip Encrypted Tag - a patented, acid-free, 1"x 3" tag with an encrypted microchip is placed onto the Certificate of Authenticity. The microchip contained within the tag contains all of the pertinent information about the prop or costume. The tag is tamper proof and the microchip is encrypted, making it impossible to duplicate.? 3) The certificate also has the 9-digit DNA invisible ink mark which must match the 9-digit invisible ink mark on the prop. This will ensure that it is a genuine prop issued by Premiere Props and authenticated by MPDNA.
