Charles Wilson Peale autograph letter signed, ''Chas W Peale'' as one of three members of the ''Committee of Assembly'' dated 29 January 1780 amidst the Revolutionary War. Countersigned by the remaining two Committee of assembly members, ''Wm. Hollinshead'' and ''Jacob Schreiner.'' Letter requests that State Treasurer David Rittenhouse pay for nails used to repair Independence Hall, then called ''Stadt House''. Reads in full, ''Please to pay unto Mr. Jacob Greiner the Sum of Four Hundred and Seventy eight pound, Seven Shillings & Six pence, for Nails Used on the Stadt House and public Stables.'' Letter on 1pp. measures 6.75'' x 3'' and has an uneven right edge and a mounting strip to top edge of verso. Endorsed to verso, ''Jacob Greiner'' with ''Feb. 2d. 1800 Recd the Contents.'' Near fine condition.
