<B>Charles Wilkes Picture and Autographed Note Signed.</B></I> Photograph is one page 6.75" x 10", note is 4.5" x 2.5". Accomplished explorer and officer in the United States Navy, Wilkes is best known for his involvement in the Trent Affair. Wilkes stopped the British mail ship Trent, capturing two Confederate envoys. The capture and implied connections between Britain and the Confederacy incited an international incident that nearly resulted in military conflict between Britain and the Union.
