CHARLES P. STEINMETZ, (1865-1923). Mathematician and engineer. Steinmetz is best known for his development of the theory of alternating currents and for his experiments with artificially-created lightning. He established his name in the American scientific community in 1892, preparing an analysis of hysteresis loss, a magnetic effect peculiar to alternating current. A true scientific genius. Signed card 4" x 2 1/2". "Charles P. Steinmetz". Accompanied by an interesting contemporaneous type note indicating that "This is probably the last autograph of Charles Steinmetz as the envelope was postmarked...and he died the following day. Accompanied by the postmark cut from the original envelope in which the card was sent. An interesting assemblage. Excellent.
