Botanist (1841-1927) who served as the first director of Harvard University's Arnold Arboretum. Two ALSs signed "C. S. Sargent," each one page, 5.25 x 8.25, March 22, 1874 and June 3, 1884. Both to English botanist and taxonomist Maxwell T. Masters. The first, in part: "I see, that in order to obtain tickets for the Exhibition to be held in the Garden of the Royal Botanic Society on Wednesday next, it is necessary to obtain a voucher from a member of the Society. I am not sure whether I know any member of the Society & I write to ask you." The second, on Arnold Arboretum, Harvard University letterhead, in part: "It is of course perfectly unnecessary for me to give Dr. Parry a line of introduction to Dr. Masters. But as he is just going to England, where he is to pass the summer, I will ask him to give you this note which will serve to bring you two together." In overall fine condition. Accompanied by an unsigned original photo of Sargent with H. H. Hunnewell.
