Charles Pete Conrad's Flown VHS Antenna from his Lunar Surface Portable Life Support System (...
Charles "Pete" Conrad's Flown "VHS Antenna" from his Lunar Surface Portable Life Support System (10x.5") Conrad saved this spring metal upper portion of his PLSS antenna as a souvenir of his 8 hours on the lunar surface when he jettisoned his PLSS prior to lunar launch to return to the Command Module. The antenna is a shiny strip of metal with a small cut towards one end. It may show some moon dust, but we can't verify that. It has been professionally framed to 15.5x12.5" in a black/gold wooden frame. Apart from his pressure helmet, the most memorable image remembered by the mind's eye of an astronaut on the lunar surface is his PLSS. This antenna extended above the top of the backpack, visible in some of the lunar photos and was used to communicate with fellow astronaut Alan Bean on the lunar surface, Dick Gordon, Command Module Pilot in the Command Module in orbit around the moon and with NASA tracking stations back on Earth. A striking, unique piece of memorabilia. Unique. Ex: the astronaut Charles Conrad estate collection. FLOWN Estimate: $ 50,000 - 75,000
