Exhibited: Royal Academy, 1803 Provenance: Accompanied by an old hand-written note of provenance which states: ""This portrait of my father's great or great great uncle, Jms[?] Hacker [or Hocker] was exhibited in the Royal Academy as marked. The father of Jas. Hacker was a great personal friend of Sir Joshua Reynolds and family tradition is that the portrait was painted under his direction (perhaps by one of his pupils?)""
