Charles Lingard Sheffield marked clipped point Bowie knife with rare pewter cast grip and guard. The blade is marked and etched with patriotic Eagles and slogans “Ask for nothing but what is right, and submit to nothing that is wrong” also “Draw me not without reason”. The blade remains in very good condition with just some minor spotting and aging and most of its original polish, slight sharpening and small loss to the tip. The area of the ricasso is marked by maker and also shows a small letter stamping, “Faith”. Included with this rare Bowie is an original to the period scabbard with embossed decoration retaining its tip, throat and button hanger. Circa 1840s to 50s in the gold rush era. Est.: $4,500-$9,000.
