Inaugural flight-flown air mail envelope, 9.5 x 4.25, with a stamped cachet commemorating the Cristobal to Miami air mail route, signed vertically on the front by “C. A. Lindbergh” (pilot), “Basil Rowe” (co-pilot), and “I. Sikorsky” (vice president, Sikorsky Aviation Corporation). Reverse of envelope bears an additional five postmarks. In very good condition, with scattered light soiling, creasing, and toning, and a handwritten address to Sikorsky Corporation in NYC on front and return address on reverse. Accompanied by a desirable original candid snapshot of Charles and Anne Lindbergh, Sikorsky, and others taken upon arrival.
A trailblazer once again, Lindbergh opened the important express mail route from Miami through Cuba and Central America to Cristobal, Canal Zone on April 26, 1930, with the return trip on May 1. He piloted a Sikorsky S-38, a small, twin-motored amphibious aircraft (sometimes called “The Explorer’s Air Yacht”) that had been manufactured by Sikorsky, also a legendary aviation pioneer. Exceedingly rare flown cover, the only one known to be signed by the trio of Lindbergh, Rowe, and Sikorsky. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
