Pocket compass, approximately l.75? diameter, silver tone with "U.S." engraved on one side. Accompanying box is marked "Compass Assembly Pocket Type Air Forces Order No. W535 - AC - 27707 Mfr's Assy Dwg 1941 Longines-Wittnauer Watch Co., Inc." This compass is presumed to be part of a survival equipment kit purchased by and flown and/or used by Charles A. Lindbergh in 1938. In fine condition. Accompanied by a copy of a letter of provenance by noted Charles Lindbergh expert Ev Cassagneres explaining the story behind the compass “It was assumed…items were used at various places during their many years of travel and exploration trips and projects.” This item was purchased from a family friend of Anne Morrow Lindbergh.
