<B>[Charles I] Collection of Regicides: The Judges Who Sent Him To The Scaffold.</B></I> This lot is comprised of four pieces, chief among them a very scarce item signed by three of the men appointed to try, in high court, the reigning monarch, Charles I. <B>Cornelius Holland, Denis Bond, & John Downes</B></I> Letter Signed, 1 page, 7.5" by 11", Whitehall, January 5, 1652; a small hole at center, effecting two words, else quite good. With typed transcription. This intriguing letter is seemingly about financial matters but mentions a Mr. Hutchinson who is involved with a trial: said Hutchinson has been "<I>furnisht sufficiently money for standing guards and hath his Convoys...</B></I>" England's Civil War, like America's, also ended in the murder of the country's lawful leader - though there the deed was done by trial and execution. Cornelius Holland and Denis Bond did not sign the King's death warrant; John Downes claimed to have done under duress. <BR><BR>Also with a Document Signed by one Thomas Harvey in 1707; a Document Signed by one Robert Day in 1706; and a Document Signed by one John Brookhall in 1685.
