French composer (1818–1893) known for his opera, Faust and for his composition of Ave Marie. ALS in French, signed “Ch. Gounod,” one page, 4 x 5, no date. Gounod writes Mr. Mayer. In full (translated): “Tomorrow, Monday, I shall be at the Opera at 1:00.” Central horizontal fold, wrinkling, a spot of staining at the lower left corner, and the signature a shade light, otherwise fine condition.
