Early cinema and television pioneer (1867–1934). TLS signed “Jenkins,” one page, 8.5 x 11, Radio Pictures Corporation letterhead, October 3, 1923. Jenkins writes to photographer William N. Jennings. In full: “Do you happen by good fortune for me to have a picture of a little boy and girl, or preferably a little boy and two girls, on a bobsled coasting? A picture as small as a lantern slide is alright [sic]. In fact I will have to cut it down if it is larger. I am enclosing a sample of some of the photographic work we have recently done by radio, to give you an idea of the improvement we are making. I am also enclosing a sample of a Japanese message sent by radio to another Japanese in native characters, the first time in history that it has ever been done.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one passing through his name, and light toning and soiling. Accompanied by the two photos mentioned in the letter, a glossy 3.5 x 3.5 image of a Native American, signed on the reverse, “Radio photo Jenkins 1923,” and a glossy 3.5 x 3.5 photo of Japanese characters, signed on the reverse, “Radio messages in native Japanese characters, Jenkins Washington 1923.” These early photos were among the very first sent by radio wave.
