Charles E. Hughes: A Unique Silk Electoral Ballot / Ribbon. An optimistic creation: Hughes was favored to defeat incumbent Woodrow Wilson in 1916, and indeed most of the country went to bed on election night believing he had done so. However, an upset Wilson win in California, not finalized until the next morning, threw the election to the Democrats. This most unusual ribbon was probably intended as a souvenir for the occasion when Illinois electors would formally cast their ballots for a president-elect Hughes. We have never seen another example! Very minor light aging noted for accuracy: excellent overall. Measures 4.75” x 6”.
