ALS, one page, 4.25 x 6.5, May 12, 1846. Short letter to T. J. Serle. In full: “I enclose you Mr. Dillon’s letter. He is more than a man of his word, I do not doubt. Faithfully Yours, always, Charles Dickens.” Matted and framed with a half-length seated engraved portrait, to an overall size of 16.5 x 13.5. In fine condition, with intersecting mailing folds, one through a single letter of signature.

John Dillon was a wealthy merchant and philanthropist in London who was also a close friend of Dickens. Several years earlier, Dillon had written the novelist to tell him how deeply A Christmas Carol had consoled him following the death of his son. The offered correspondence appears in the 1988 publication, The Letters of Charles Dickens.
