Charles Dickens: Original Serialized First Edition of Our Mutual Friend (London: Chapman and Hall, May 1864 to November 1865), first edition, twenty parts in 19 volumes, various paginations, original blue-green illustrated wrappers, 8vo (5.25" x 8.5"), housed in a red cloth fold-over slipcase. Forty plates with illustrations by Marcus Stone, engraved by Dalziel and W. T. Green. Part 1 is in the first state, with no printer's imprint and the Fry's advertisement at rear reading "Homoepathic Cocoa" on yellow paper. Part 1 lacks the first leaf of advertisements and the ad for "Churchman's" at the rear. The most advertisement-heavy among Dickens' serialized works. The serialized first offering of Dicken's classic, overall in very good condition. Part 1 is slightly worn than the other installments, with a slightly faded cover. All display wear along the fore-edge, but are overall very attractive and rare in this condition. The slipcase has one detached edge held together with clear tape, and moderate soiling to the boards.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
