English naturalist and author (1809–1882) whose book explaining his theories of evolution, On the Origin of the Species by Means of Natural Selection (1859), takes a place among the most influential texts in the history of scientific thought. ALS signed “C. Darwin,” one page, 4.25 x 6, April 14. Brief letter to an unidentified gentleman. In full: “Many thanks for the advertisement. I am much pleased that you are content with the title.” Double cloth matted and framed with a portrait of Darwin and a name plaque to an overall size of 26.5 x 22.25. Intersecting folds, a few creases and wrinkles, letter partially affixed to same-sized sheet of paper, and some scattered light toning and soiling, otherwise fine condition. Any handwritten correspondence from Darwin is uncommon and highly prized by collectors. Oversized.
