Hand-addressed mailing envelope, 5.25 x 3, addressed by Darwin to Scottish writer and dog breeder George Cupples, "G. Cupples Esq., The Cottage, Guard Bridge, Fifeshire, N. B." Postmarked at Beckenham, May 30, 1878. In very good condition, with a rusty circular paperclip impression to the edge and several pencil annotations. While the letter that this envelope would have contained is unrecorded by the Darwin Correspondence Project, Cupples had written to Darwin on May 27th with an inquiry regarding the application of sexual selection to the Scotch Deerhound breed.
