Charles Coll - The Shadow Pulp Cover Original Art (Street & Smith, June, 1946). A skeletal hand tears up a handful of clues right in front of the Shadow's penetrating gaze, on the cover for the June, 1946 story, "Alibi Trail" -- tsk, tsk, Mr. Bones is certainly flirting with disaster! In "Alibi Trail", a strange Spanish playing card, a baggage check, and a bank check are the only clues guiding The Shadow along a trail of crime and death. Can the Master of Darkness throw light on the forces of evil and bring them to justice? Charles Coll was a popular illustrator for the original Golden Age Shadow comic book title, and also painted several of the late 1940s Shadow Pulp covers. He was a cousin of the renowned magazine illustrator, Joseph Clement Coll. Coll's gouache on illustration board painting has an image area of 14" x 19.5", and is in Excellent condition. A facsimile of the printed cover is included in this lot. Winning any Pulp cover original would be thrilling, but acquiring a Shadow cover would rank as "the ultimate" for most Pulp aficionados -- The Shadow knows!
