Charcoal & Chalk Painting - Gerda Christoffersen. This is a very large painting on paper board in a wood frame. It is hand signed on the back, ''To Henry Chernoff 1962 This Was Meant for You Lovingly Gerda C.'' It also has written in different media - ''Not for Sale GC 61.'' The visual measures 40.5''H x 30''W. There is a small peeling off of the surface on the lower left corner, near the signature and some small white spots on the upper right quadrant which may be stray chalk marks. The following is taken from the ''Ask Art'' website: Note submitted July 2004 by Bea Dunlap. A friend said that when her sister worked at Glacier National Park in the early ''50's the ''Papoose'' pictures by Gerda Christoffersen were sold in the gift shop. The following information was taken from a label on the back of one of her pictures. ''Gerda Christoffersen, internationally know painter, was born in Denmark and has spent most of her life in Canada and the United States studying the culture of North American Indians and is now an authority on the subject. She has also studied anatomy with H. G. Glyde of England. She has created the original style of the ''Papoose Paintings'' and is uninfluenced by any art trend or form. She painted the covers for the Maryknoll Magazine for 1956 representing twelve different of children of the world in her well known ''Papoose Style''. Collectors own works by Gerda Christoffersen in Europe, Australia, Africa, India, Canada, South America and the United States.
