Chaplin (1992) Robert Downey Jr.'s Hero Prop Cane From Director Sir Richard Attenborough Professionally Mounted & Framed W/Promotional Photos - This hero prop cane was used during the filming of the 1992 British-American biographical comedy-drama film Chaplin, about the life of British comedian Charlie Chaplin. This cane was used by Robert Downey Jr. as he portrayed the title role of Charlie Chaplin, and was used throughout filming predominately in closeup shots. The cane was also used by Downey Jr. for publicity shots. The bamboo prop is virtually identical to the stick used by the real Chaplin as he portrayed his legendary Little Tramp character in the 1920's. The cane was originally personally donated by the film's director Sir Richard Attenborough to a charity radio auction as documented in the accompanying copy of the letter that was obtained before the director's death. It was then later sold at a movie auction with other costume pieces from the film. The cane has been professionally mounted and framed in a beautiful presentation in an acrylic box along with several promotional photos from the film. Robert Downey Jr. received universal acclaim for his performance as Chaplin, a role for which he won a BAFTA Award and was nominated for an Academy Award. The film was also nominated for two additional Academy Awards, two BAFTA Awards and three Golden Globe Awards.
