Color satin-finish 10 x 8 NASA crew photo, signed in black felt tip by all seven crew members: Ellison Onizuka, S. Christa McAuliffe, Greg Jarvis, Judy Resnik, Mike Smith, Dick Scobee, and Ronald E. McNair. Photo is also inscribed at the top in an unknown hand, “To Steve from the crew of 51 L.” In fine condition, with a light brush to Scobee’s signature, a few trivial surface marks, and a bit of light feathering to inscription. The Challenger was NASA’s second space shuttle orbiter to be put into service, Columbia being the first. Its maiden flight was on April 4, 1983, and it completed nine missions before breaking apart 73 seconds after the launch of its tenth mission, STS-51-L, on January 28, 1986, killing all seven crew members. Accompanied by a letter of provenance stating the photo was signed by the crew after a pre-launch countdown demonstration.
