Challenge for a duel written 23 April, 1802, in New York to Mr. Joal Davis. Davis is ordered to offer satisfaction for malicious attempts to ruin the signer’s character. He is asked to provide an hour and place at his address, “the old coffee house”. Signed “M. L.”. The document measures approx. 7” by 8-1/4”. Shows some tatters, folding, minor acid burns, small losses, but writing is clear and vivid and the writer is showing anger in the way he crosses his “T”s. From the William R. Orbelo Collection. Little John's will pay for packing and materials. Buyer pays actual costs of shipping and insurance. All International purchases will be sent to an exporter for shipment to foreign countries.
