Chalcedony Helictite Group - The Big 'A' Cluster
CHALCEDONY HELICITE GROUP'THE BIG 'A' CLUSTER
Deccan Plateau, India
This exotically sinuous bit of Nature's whimsy was discovered in the course of operations at one of the numerous road metal quarries that are scattered about the Deccan Plateau; a vast lava flow covering thousands of square miles in central India. Bubbles in the lava are occasionally found to harbor strange wormlike growths formed of chalcedony; a form of silica closely related to agate. In this case, erratically radiating crystals of an unidentified black mineral were coated by translucent chalcedony. As a final touch, Mother Nature gave the structure a final overcoat of sparkling, druzy quartz sprinkled with a few pearlescent blades of stilbite. Not visible in the photograph are a few green doubly-terminated crystals of apophyllite. Mounted on a custom base. The tip of one 'arm' is broken, otherwise fine. It measures 6 x 4 ½ x 2 ¾ inches deep.

Shipping: Requires 3rd Party Shipping (view shipping information)
